There are few things as appealing, at least in the world of mobile apps, as a paid app gone free for the day. For those who share that feeling and are using iOS devices, Apps Gone Free will be a pleasant discovery. Today's free apps include SoundHound and Accordéon. And for those wondering just how these apps, as well as those for Android, will impact their data plan, Know My App has the answer for you. It's a new database from CTIA that includes practical examples of everyday usage and how much data they consume.

**Free iOS Apps**

If you're an iPhone or iPad user you'll be likely to find [Apps Gone Free](https://itunes.apple.com/US/app/id470693788?mt=8&ref=hypebot.com), a free iOS app, to be worth checking out. Each day it reveals apps that are temporarily available for free.

[Today's free deals](http://mashable.com/2014/01/01/apps-free/?ref=hypebot.com) include [SoundHound](https://itunes.apple.com/US/app/id284972998?mt=8&ref=hypebot.com), normally $6.99, and [Accordéon](https://itunes.apple.com/US/app/id364741802?mt=8&ref=hypebot.com) for budding accordionists.

Cool looking photo apps [Path on – Swipe to Type](https://itunes.apple.com/US/app/id596696015?mt=8&ref=hypebot.com) and [Filterstorm Neue](https://itunes.apple.com/US/app/id728479183?mt=8&ref=hypebot.com) for photo editing are also currently available for free.

**How Much Data?**

[Know My App](http://www.knowmyapp.org/?ref=hypebot.com) is a site from CTIA – The Wireless Association that seeks to educate consumers about mobile apps. It includes a handy [search feature](http://www.knowmyapp.org/Search.aspx?ref=hypebot.com) that allows you to search for an app like [Facebook's](http://www.knowmyapp.org/Details.aspx?id=1041&ref=hypebot.com) and figure out how much data it will use with practical examples:

"Tested Use: One day usage = 3 sessions of the following scenario: Posting 5 Comments, "Liking" 5 posts, viewing one embedded video, viewing 3 embedded photos, scroll through Timeline, 1 Check-In, Uploading 1 photo."

Currently the database is rather limited and, according to Grant Gross [at PCWorld](http://www.pcworld.com/article/2083100/ctia-website-shows-mobile-app-data-usage.html?ref=hypebot.com), "includes test results for the top 50 paid and free apps from the Apple and Google stores."

Nevertheless it should be a useful tool for those attempting to maintain a data budget and CTIA is planning on adding more each month.
