Two years to the month after Apple launched Ping – it's never-got-off-the-ground attempt to merge music with social – the company is shutting it down. Ping's lack of a connection with Facebook, even as the later soared, virtually guarunteed this day would come.

As of September 30, 2012, R.I.P. Ping.
