**Greg Rollett** ([@g\_ro](http://twitter.com/g%5Fro?ref=hypebot.com)) is from the [music marketing company](http://www.genyrockstars.com/?ref=hypebot.com), Gen-Y Rock Stars.

Here at **Hypebot**, we are rolling
out our summer reading lists, written by some of the
leading thinkers in the industry. If you happen to be in that crowd, **[email me](mailto:kyle.bylin@gmail.com)**
**five of your picks** and reasons why the music industry should be
reading them.

**Here is Greg's**
**list**:

**[Influence: The Psychology Of Persuasion](http://www.amazon.com/Influence-Psychology-Persuasion-Business-Essentials/dp/006124189X/ref=sr%5F1%5F1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1280253503&sr=1-1&ref=hypebot.com)** by **Robert Cialdini**

This book holds in it some of the most sound marketing principles that have shaped our lives without even knowing it. From social proof to reciprocation, Cialdini will show you the human emotions of why we buy things, which is essential for musicians that are building their careers.

**[The Four Hour Work Week](http://www.amazon.com/4-Hour-Workweek-Expanded-Updated-ebook/dp/B002WE46UW/ref=sr%5F1%5F4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1280253907&sr=1-4&ref=hypebot.com)** by **Tim Ferriss**

This book to me is all about mind shift. Look at the way you spend your time and what you consider work. Then read this book and rethink it. The outsourcing mentality alone will add hours to your day and shift your perception of what you should be doing in your music business.

**[Celebrity Branding You](http://www.amazon.com/Celebrity-Branding-Revolutionary-Entrepreneurs-Expert/dp/1599320827/ref=sr%5F1%5F1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1280253866&sr=8-1&ref=hypebot.com)** by **Nick Nanton** and **JW Dicks**

Nick is a celebrity lawyer and marketing genius. In this quick read he shows you how to build a brand using the power of the Internet, authority and influence, something essential for a career in today's music industry.

**[Business Stripped Bare](http://www.amazon.com/Business-Stripped-Bare-Adventures-Entrepreneur/dp/0753515032/ref=sr%5F1%5F2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1280253968&sr=1-2&ref=hypebot.com)** by **Richard Branson**

If you want to start something that affects the whole globe, there is no one better than Richard Branson. Taking the road he did from small record shop owner to getting ready to fly people into space, this book ignites imagination, hardship and the innovative nature the music business needs so badly right now.

**[Life and Def](http://www.amazon.com/Life-Def-Sex-Drugs-Money/dp/0609807153/ref=sr%5F1%5F3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1280254251&sr=1-3&ref=hypebot.com)** by **Russell Simmons**

One of the most motivational books on hustling to make something out of your life I have ever read. The stories of how he started Def Jam, the clothing lines and continued expanding has to make people try harder. Something that I truly feel is lacking with indie hip-hop today – that spirit to go out and make something remarkable happen. This book, though a little dated, is worth digging into this summer.
