Are you an artist that has a compelling story or a unique way of connecting with fans? You may be able to leverage that story in order to help your career. On [Music Think Tank](http://www.musicthinktank.com/blog/how-jail-time-and-cults-can-help-your-band-become-successful.html?ref=hypebot.com), **Dmitri Vietze** asked seven founders/leaders of web-based services in the music industry what bands had stories that helped their careers.

“They told me compelling stories about **jail-time**, **tragedy**, and **cults**, but also about crowd-sourcing band members, using technology to answer fan questions, and giving fans ownership of a band.”
