Artificial Viral Marketing

Artificial viral marketing – using temporary or phony email addresses to post messages on web sites, chat rooms and even blogs like Hypebot – is a practice that few marketers admit to using publicly.  After all, it’s not really honest and just adds to spam-like clutter.

But it’s hard not admit that if you’ve got a band that would appeal to Dave Mathews fans, reaching out to them via chat boards with messages like "If you like Dave Mathews as much as I do; I think you’d love Marcus Eaton" is smart and very cost effective.

While we can’t be sure; we’re guessing that in recent weeks Hypebot has been the target of artificial viral marketing for the new Universal funded video channel – The International Music Feed.  Check out what they’ve been posting here .
