Warner Chappell Launches Perfect Game Incubator Record Label

Warner/Chappell Music, the music publishing arm of the Warner Music Group has announced the creation of Perfect Game Recording Co., a new incubator label designed to promote and develop emerging artists.

Warner_chappell_1Perfect Game will sign songwriter/recording artists to Warner/Chappell who are not already signed to a record label and provide them with the opportunity to write, record and release albums and singles supported by WMG. WMG”s East West Records will provide marketing and promotion resources and WMG’s Alternative Distribution Alliance will handle U.S. distribution. Howie Abrams, a former record and publishing A&R executive with the Zomba, will head the new company.

This new label comes on the heals of the formation of WMG’s all digital label Cordless (Watch Wmg_2Hypebot for an exclusive interview with Cordless exec Howard Wulken later this week.) and signals a further expansion of WMG’s efforts to experiment with new ways of doing business.  Cynics will say there is little new here and that WMG is just posturing for Wall Street, but perhaps in all of these new efforts there can be found glimpses of the industry’s future.
