Carly Simon On QVC. Smart Marketing Or Career Suicide?

First her ex-husband James Taylor had a Gold selling CD via the Hallmark stores. Now Carly Simon is making her debut on shopping channel QVC this Friday, January 5 at 7 PM ET. During the 30-minute broadcast, Simon, accompanied by her two kids, Sally and Ben Taylor, is scheduled to perform songs from her recently released "Into White" CD.

Is a career over when you hit the shopping channels? Or is she merely admitting the truth that this is where she can reach her audience? Certainly radio and most press are not about to embrace her new release. I’m inclined to be charitable and stick with the later explanation.  But why are her children – both of whom are talented – so starved for attention that they’ll send this message to their own fans so early in their careers?
