Majority Of European Music Industry Says Drop DRM It Won’t Hurt Revenues

Jupiter Research’s new European Music Executive Survey reveals that most Euro music industry execs (employees of major and indie labels, industry and rights groups, digital stores, and services providers) Drm_anti_wall_4
want an end to DRM.

62% said that dropping DRM "would drive adoption of digital music". Presented with the statement "DRM is essential for online music," 56% of respondents disagreed. Surprisingly only 11% surveyed believe that DRM-free music would threaten revenues. While consumers resent DRM because its restrictions, Jupiter says that most of the music industry’s displeasure with DRM stems from dissatisfaction with Apple’s dominance of the digital music market.

It should be noted that the survey is not just of label execs but cover the entire European music industry including digital.  I sincerely hope does a similar survey in the US.
