Broadband Instruments Unveils Portable Pandora
It’s finally clear what stealth start-up Broadband Instruments was up to.
Under the unfortunate name Slacker.com, their goal is to offer customizable radio you can take with you. Think of it as a portable Pandora. Streaming via WiFi, satellite and of course the PC to a special device that will sell for under $200, Slacker will offer both free ad supported and paid subscriptions. Delivery via cell and other platforms is in the planning stages.
It’s a crowded market and new higher streaming royalty rates threaten the entire sector. But Slacker has an interesting concept with a unique twist and an experienced management team that could make it a strong competitor.
