We hear there are a lot of sad faces over at
eMusic.  On Friday they believed that they had a deal with Amazon. On
Monday they did not. And with the recent EMI DRM-free announcement and
growing label defections (stay tuned) who else is going to
buy the
company for the more-than-$100 million price tag that parent

eMusic staffers were also reminded during the
recent sale frenzy was that as a private company very few of them have
stock or options that would reward them for building the company.  No
stock or options also makes key employee retention after a sale that
much harder.
