Subscription Music With A Twist: French ISP Offers Unlimited Universal Downloads

Universal is offering its own music subscription service with twist in France. 

The country’s second largest broadband provider Neuf Cegetel has begun offering downloads from UMG in any of one of nine musical genres as part of its regular monthly plan. For an extra $6.70 a month subscribers have unlimited downloads to all genres.  The catch is that you have to maintain your subscription to Neuf Cegetel to maintain access to the downloads.

The offering is a clever use of music to encourage fickle ISP customers stay loyal. For Universal its another experiment to try to find something that might entice consumers to start paying for music again.
