Help Wanted: Entry Level Manager

PunkDaFunk, a small boutique management company with over 25 years experience in the music business (including involvement with a number of platinum and multi-platinum artists), has an immediate opening for a right-hand-person/Junior manager.PunkDaFunk is a small company with a dedication to global management, artist development, and building careers of performers and other creative people who come from the left field of music, regardless of the genre.
The person we seek should be someone who has or wants to build a career in managing artists and creative people, and take their game to the next level. Someone who is passionate and excited by both the creative process and the business side, and wants to learn more about each every day.
We seek an individual who can take a task and run with it, but is not afraid to ask a question when they are unsure of how to proceed. They should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, interested in both servicing the artists we have and finding new ones.
Someone who is out-and-about around music is a must, but at the same time they must be responsible enough to get in the office the next morning. They should be of strong character despite their faults, be honest to a fault, and care about how the decisions they make affect other people.
We are based in a Brownstone in Jersey City, a 5-minute PATH ride from Manhattan, and a 10-15 minute walk afterwards. Children occasionally pop by and say hello, and most of the time we buy lunch. You must know how to use a Mac and Microsoft Office. You must not be turned off by the constant playing of new music, no matter how shitty (we’re pretty good with the delete button), as this is our life’s blood.
The main duties are:
Day-to-Day management of bands, including:
- Tour oversight and budgeting
- Scheduling of domestic and international press and promotion
- Overseeing the booking of travel
- Liaising with record companies, publishers, tour managers, promoters and other people involved with the artists’ careers,
- immigration coordination,
- Management of street teams, both online and offline.
- Chasing endorsements,
- Light spreadsheet accounting
- Content maintenance of band MySpace pages and websites,
- and most importantly, the artists to get stuff done.
Some office management and assistant work is required (though by no means is it enough to get bogged down in)
Starting salary of $30k plus benefits.
The ideal person will have or want to bring in clients of their own, and discussions about equity and partnership are certainly welcome in these cases. This is not essential, but the desire for it is.
