  1. In addition to editing Hypebot, I also founded and run boutique booking agency Skyline Music. (http://www.skylineonline.com)
Our 40 exclusive clients range from established artists like Solomon Burke, George Winston and Roger McGuinn to developing artists like The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and Hot Buttered Rum.
You can see what interests me from reading Hypebot. The music industry is changing rapidly and Hypebot is my attempt to find order and opportunity in the chaos.

  2. thnx for this opportunity, Hypebot
I’m with Anaphora Music, an indie record label and CD/DVD manufacturer in Atlanta GA metro area. We also offer music production and distribution; I do a little of everything. I’ve got a music news blog (linked from AM’s homepage) that’s more about fun and artists than industry news. I’ve worked for 4 different one-stop music wholesalers over the years…

  3. I’m an A&R consultant for Mercury Records in NYC. Responsible for talent scouting, new music research, grassroots marketing, and created the Mercury Records national scouting program. Prior to Mercury I did A&R at Columbia Records where I managed the in-house scouting program that was responsible for the discovery and signing of John Legend and Coheed & Cambria.

  4. I’m a musician and producer who co-owns a small, independent studio and record label in Orange County, CA. Actively involved in this business in one way or another for about 20 years.

  5. I’m ‘Chief of music’ at Jamendo.com, a free & legal music download platform (Creative Commons-licensed) based in Luxembourg. As for myself, I’m a French-American citizen living in Paris. At Jamendo I make music selections, write about artists, search for new music. I used to be a music journalist in press & radio (France).

  6. I read Hypebot in Google Reader. When I was forming a digital label, it was nice to see that CBS was closing their brick-and-morter label down. I’ll be 25 soon.
I play jazz piano, engineer, produce, dj and mc.
I also work stage and promote.

  7. Hey, I’m the Founder and CEO of GigMaven. GigMaven helps musicians and live music venues book gigs online. We are trying to address the inefficiency in the live music booking process and decrease the average time and cost to book a gig.
We believe this is an incredibly exciting time in the music industry. Yes, there is some turmoil, but as a result, there is innovation and re-invention happening in every aspect of the business.

  8. I’m a part-time music blogger (yvynyl.tumblr.com) and music video producer that’s super excited about the possibilities of the new frontier of media. A new convert to the hypebot. Keep up the excellent work!

  9. I have run Loose Records since the 70s here in the UK & before that worked for CBS. Used to have bricks & mortar retail stores in London which now operate online and in a beautiful rural setting – who needs the capital city now?
As a songwriter I welcome what is happening in the industry – opportunities are wide open for individuals to thrive.
Thanks also for the Hypebot service which contributes to the level playing field we can all operate on

  10. I’m a first year college student who wants to manage a local band and set up music festivals and am in the process of learning how to do so. I can’t wait to see where music is going and want to be part of it.

  11. I’m retail manager at HRM Records. I use hypebot to stay ahead of the curve with all the upheaval in the industry.
I agree, this is a very exciting time for the business, but some stability would be nice too.

  12. I am an entertainment attorney based in Atlanta, GA. I have also been a touring musician, artist manager and indie label owner.
I am excited about the new opportunities presented by new digital platforms.
This site is helpful in keeping me aware of trends in the industry that may not get traditional exposure.

  13. Hi, I run an indie label based in San Diego, CA. The lack of funds has us in a state of limbo but we’ve not given up the ship yet. We also license catalogs for publishing and digital distribution.
25 year veteran of the biz, ranging from musician, manager, distribution, retail (R.I.P. Tower) to label mogul (HA!)
Just introduced to Hypebot. Greetings all…

  14. I am the Publicist for an up and coming New England-based band called The Brew.(www.thebrew.biz, http://www.youtube.com/thebrew, http://www.myspace.com/thebrew1, http://thebrewmusic.proboards102.com). I’m primarily interested in using video, audio, the internet, and new technologies in viral-based music promotions. Bridging the gap between fans and the music they want…giving them a voice and a presence, and presenting them with opportunities to be part of a band’s growth.

  15. Hello all,
My name is Conard. I’m a hip-hop music producer with The Sound, LLC (thesoundllc.com). We are an urban music production company that provides music production for hip-hop artists looking for new music. We also license our catalog for use in films, television and games. I’m looking for new areas to expand to and find the information on hypebot informative and insightful. -I’m IN!!!!

  16. I am the Business Development Director for BLVD, an up and coming livetronica band from the Bay Area. I seek out and create opportunities and strategies to increase our revenue and visibility.
I am also the Marketing Director for Cartfly.com, your place to sell out. Cartfly creates a new online commerce ecosystem that dramatically increases the opportunities for online retailers to sell their merchandise by enabling sales in multiple locations simultaneously across major social networks, like MySpace, Facebook, and Bebo, or anywhere else on the web. Bands make up 60% of our merchants!!
Thanks HypeBot for the impromptu networking opportunity!!

  17. I am an intellectual property attorney in Chicago, where one of my specialties is music licensing.
In addition, I am an owner (and blogger in chief) at http://www.soundies.com, a local label that owns 1940s masters, and collects neighboring rights royalties on behalf of recording artists through our PARCS service.
I read hypebot through Googlereader. Keep up the nice work. Kevin

  18. Great idea, Bruce.
I’m a singer/songwriter/producer from Oakland, California who’s skeptically enthusiastic (if that’s possible) about Music 2.0.
My band, Radio Nowhere (which sounds something like a mashup of Pete Townshend and Prince), has just released its debut EP, and I’m enjoying experimenting with all these new ideas about connecting with music fans all over the place.

  19. I’m a musician currently living in San Luis Obispo, CA but I’m actually from Austin, TX. Working on another album as we speak, and doing everything possible to learn and understand what the possible futures are in music.

  20. Our resident web engineer, Philip, had been raving about your site for a while and got everyone in the office hooked. betterPropaganda is now fully informed. Although we focus on editorial content such as reviews, as well as offering a wide range of free, legal mp3 downloads, it’s always good to keep up on the industry – Hypebot allows that. I’m the Director of Marketing at b-Prop and Head of New Media at Banter Records. Come on over and listen to some good music.

  21. I’m another fan of your blog in the betterPropaganda office. I started betterPropaganda music 5 years ago. Since, we’ve developed relationships with more than 600 major and independent labels to provide free music, videos, interviews and other content. We’re the only fully interactive online music magazine, bringing you the best cutting edge rock, hip hop and electronic music. I’ve been doing internet stuff since 1995 and tech since 1990, running operations for companies like Razorfish and Village Roadshow and helping build many companies in the space, e.g., eMachines and Acer Online.

  22. I’m a music business entrepreneur and in charge of New Media/Digital/Mobile here at US indie label Fearless Records. I’ve previously interned at Atlantic Records and worked on new media/mobile projects with a Senior VP at the company. I also manage an up and coming, while starting to develop a fresh unique way to bring band merchandise to the band through online band experiences.
Feel free to contact me if you want to talk idea or partnership opportunities.

  24. My name is Godwin, I consider myself a music professional though I have never been in the established industry. My partners and I have released and sold over 14 projects that we’ve sold on the streets (rather lucratively). Then the iPod came out. We lost sales. Thank you Hypebot. You’re helping turn the net into my new street corner office.

  25. I’m not a musician or otherwise in the industry; I work for the Mozilla Foundation, the nonprofit overseeing the project that produced the Firefox browser, etc. However I have an interest in the ongoing evolution of the music business (which is why I read Hypebot) and I publish an intermittently-updated blog (swindleeeee.com) focusing on the eMusic service and related topics.

  26. I’m CEO of Rook Interactive. We make Red Velvet, an ecommerce and content management solution designed in collaboration with Nettwerk music. We work with creative, labels that are looking to develop unique business models.

  27. Other than my time on Hypebot, I have two major projects out of Athens, Ga:
    1) Along with four University of Georgia students, I have been developing a digital music startup for over one year. If you ever wanted to check out a new artist, but did not know where to begin, WE HAVE THE ANSWER! Over time, the website will sort through each and every artist’s entire catalogue, and organize the songs from best-to-worst…according to the ones that know the music the best, the fans themselves. It will be launching in the next few months. Contact me if you want to learn more.
    2) For the last couple years, I have been helping a phenomenal band out of Nashville, TN, The Minor Kings. They are set to release their official debut album this fall. I consistently tell them that the music will speak for itself…at a certain point. For now, we must figure out ways to sift through all of the noise. Sooner or later, these guys are going to be stars. I guarantee it! http://www.myspace.com/minorkingmusic

  28. Hi Everyone!!
I am working with a musician to do his first independent release, and I found this site when I was looking for more in-depth information about the music industry. This is on of my top two favorite informative music sites!!
You have a superb site with cutting edge aesthetics and view points!! Keep up the great information output to the masses! We love it!

  29. Hey good idea!
I’m a 21 year old audio-production major at Ohio University. I’m an interning engineer at the local 3 Elliot Studio here in Athens, OH. I play guitar, bass, piano, djembe, and the turntables. I’m currently working on getting a music blog up and running (forgive my slack, I’m a full time student first, music blogger second) at [audiophile528.wordpress.com]. I’m consistently amazed by the pace with which our industry is morphing, and I’m glad I can count on sites like Hypebot to give me some sort of footing. Thanks Bruce!

  33. Bruce,
Follow Hypebot via Google Reader and your e-blast. Great stuff.
I’m the former leader of The Jazz Pack – a team of swingin’ singin’ sales and marketing execs in the music industry (classic biz presentation content on youtube); now a leader of The HiFive Group, a sales, marketing and distribution consultancy. Aspiring to help connect the dots in the (r)evolution of the business for artists, labels, brands and agencies.
Say hello via facebook, LinkedIn, Triiibes, myspace, youtube or Twitter (@hifivelounge).

  34. Hello Hypebot Community,
I’m an artist/producer/label/music consultant all in one combo. I’ve been singing and writing songs for 30 years (which means I’m pretty exhausted and out of breath by now. Ha.) I’m working currently with http://www.alldigdown.com as their Music Knowledge Manager. I’m on Facebook, Stumble Upon and You Tube (Look under Sheer Zed.)
I visit and read Hypebot everyday. It’s full of juicy nourishment and contains no lumps of fat or gristle.

  35. What a great idea and a fantastic opportunity to actually turn the tables and utilize the true power of the internet so that we can get to know one another.
I’m a new media agent at a large talent agency. Having a digital strategy focus and background, I’m fortunate that doing what I do allows me to work in all fields, not just music. Having said that, I started my “career” many, many years ago touring with some large rock bands (proverbial “roadie” if you will).
I share a passion for music and often look to work with companies that I feel solve some of the problems endemic in the industry today.
    Cheers,

  36. Hi All,
I’m a graduation student from the Netherlands (Media & Entertainment Management), writing my thesis on the future of the music business. I’ve had my internship at Universal Music in the Netherlands and worked part time for an indie label representing Dutch artists and the Roadrunner catalogue.
I read hypebot through my Google reader to keep up with all the latest news from inside the industry. I’m about to start working soon, and hopefully in the m.bizz
Keep up the good work Hypebot!
    Jim

  37. I’ve been fortunate to have been working with musicians for the past 30 years. Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, Dave Edmunds and Rockpile, The Kentucky Headhunters, James Lewis with TSO, Tom Chess of Tom Chess Fame, TrueHeart, Danny Gatton, Marty Brown and Richie Sambora along the way.
I’m currently working on a helpful data depot that will offer musicians, and those who like to work with them, the tools to build however big a house/career they so choose. I am but a tool maker with suggestions. You choose, you do.

  38. My name is Cliff, and I am the singer in the band Dry Kill Logic and CEO of Psychodrama Music Group, an indie label / management company based out of NYC. Love the site, keep up the good work!

  39. Hi everybody, I work in marketing at FATdrop. We make tools for managing pre-release music. Our main service lets you build powerful digital promos that are easy to use, and great for getting feedback.

    -Mike

  42. I’m an artist manager with Left Coast Music Group and music business consultant with my own company Open All Nite Entertainment. I consult for emerging artists and indie labels in all areas from marketing, distribution, touring, publishing, etc. Check out my service video at http://www.openallnite.com. I’ve known Bruce for awhile and he has created a very helpful and engaging forum for the community. I enjoy the read. Congrats on your new nuptials Bruce!

  43. I’m president of Audio and Video Labs, Inc, the parent company of Disc Makers and CD Baby. In college (before I joined Disc Makers in ’87) I was a drummer in several hardcore punk bands, released several singles and an album, and toured regionally in the Northeast. I also ran a small independent record label whose major claim to fame was that it had the top selling album on the island of Aruba for two years running. Currently I keep myself busy with two full time jobs – at Disc Makers and CD Baby – and by reading Hypebot.

  44. Hey folks,
My name is Shawn Peters and I am a partner of Rebel Soul Records, an independent label based in both NYC and San Francisco. We also do artist management and live music events.
    Great to meet everyone!

  45. My name is Andy Young, I am the founder of Tunipop (www.tunipop.com), which is an aggregator of physical music merchandise information, that will enable the digital music eco-system to leverage fan gear, to drive new revenues, and offset declines in recording sales. We developed our platform to rationalize merchandise to coincide with trends in music discovery and tap into an estimated $5 billion global market. Our goal is to be disruptive to the current merchandise market; making the availability of an artist’s merchandise a natural extension of the music discovery process, and growing the market through increased visibility and convenient access to available items. We are currently seeking a start-up round, and building an outside BOD. If you are interested in what we are doing, I’d like to hear from you!

  46. Just finished a 2 yr gig with kelli.com as songwriter, performer and online marketer – actively looking for a new gig. I have been working with social media for 9 years with focus on music and the “digital footprint” for the last two. Have my own creative outlet at http://music2work2.com.

My name is Foster Hagey. I manage Big Baby Recording — a recording studio in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. I’m also a personal technical adviser to the CEO’s of World of Andy Music, Big Much Productions, Club Road Music Corp., and JaneMarvel.com. I started following Hypebot after the Columbia Records AdWords campaign. So brilliant!

  48. Thanks Hypebot. Keep up the great work of aggregating important industry info.
I head Content Licensing for Akoo Int’l (www.akoo.com). We have a proprietary, patent-pending digital platform called m-Venue(tm) which allows consumers to use their mobile devices like “universal remote controls” to search, select and activate audio/video content, on-demand in public “out-of-home” spaces where they shop, eat, socialize and play.

  49. Director of Fivestone Records a label set up by the artist Stone Walters who prefers to self release than sign to a Major. Looking for innovative ways to take advantage of our flexible model (all rights under one roof) when taking a product to market. Feel free to email info@fivestonerecords.com

  50. I’m a Chicago-based blues promoter and writer. I manage and produce recordings for guitarist Chainsaw Dupont, and also collaborate with him as his lyricist. I’ve developed the Chicago Blues Tour, a twice-yearly pub crawl featuring classic Chicago blues lounges, and BluesWire (www.blueswire.net), a blues-news aggregation site, as well as Blues University(R), a trademarked and copyrighted curriculum on blues music history. Keep up the good work, it’s a changing music world that needs documenting.

  54. Hey all,
My name is Sandra and I am a grant writer/publicist for Lady Jayne, an independent Canadian R & B musician with a fabulous voice, great songwriting skills, and plenty of drive.
This is so cool knowing that Hypebots connects me to industry people and musicians throughout the world.
There is so much to learn and I am glad to learn something new about the music industry and how to market on-line in such an ever changing world.

  56. Hey Hypebot, I run The Music Snob, a blog and industry wiki I created on the music industry to gather advice and insight on getting ahead as an independent musician. As with many other artists out there, just having some beautiful sounds doesn’t cut it:)
I read Hypebot to see what’s happening and learn about new technology and tools. Love it!

  57. Big fan, thank you. I was a casualty of EMI, having been cut from the Capitol in the beginning of summer where I worked in A&R with some extremely passionate people. Many forget that the major labels are comprised of music fans! It’s the top that needs trimming. But that is needed in every industry, not just music.
My new project is PUMP Sessions – People United for Music & Progress. It’s a monthly concert series held at The Annex in NYC. Kickoff date is Sept 9th. Proceeds of the door will be donated to Charity: Water. I am currently seeking corporate sponsors for upcoming events. Will be mostly rock/pop bands, but some electronic/hip-hop acts thrown in the mix.
The dream was to accomplish three things: Get more people out to see live music, help indie artists gain exposure, and make a difference in the lives of others. So why not combine them all? What have I learned? If you want to do something, do it now and Do It Yourself!
Feel free to contact me anytime, I am on LinkedIn and Myspace

  58. Former VP Operation & Administration for True North Records in Canada. Currently working as a marketing, media and business entertainment consultant. I also teach music and entertainment marketing at Harris Institute. http://www.harrisinstitute.com

  59. Originally a Manhattan baby, this Native New Yorker grew up with music pouring through her veins! In high school she was voted Most Musical and is widely known as the tiny girl with the BIG voice. Her best memories are when one of the songs she recorded in a studio was aired live on radio station KISS FM and was voted 91% kissed on the ‘Kiss it or Diss it’ segment. She recently graduated from Five Towns College with a degree in Music Business and hopes to one day go to law school to become an entertainment lawyer.
Ever since she was 18 months, she has been singing wherever she can be heard, whether it was talent/state competitions, benefits, live gigs, school functions, baseball stadiums, and various theatre productions. Some of her hobbies include, singing, dancing, acting, playing guitar, swimming, shopping and writing just to name a few…
Some of her accomplishments include being featured on several shows on MTV, interviewed on The Tyra Banks Show, interviewed on E! News twice (still going for that third!!), performing on NBC’s ‘Gimme the Mike’ as well as starring in a promotional commercial for ‘My so-called Life’ on the Noggin channel. She currently holds the title of Hudson Valley Idol, Orange County Top 3 vocalists and has opened with Lexi Lawson for Grammy Award Nominated R&B and PoP Singer, Songwriter Ne-Yo!
Cina states she will someday be famous for something great. Her motto is to never hope your going to be something, always think positive and say YOU ARE going to be what you want to be. If you truly believe in yourself, then there is nothing that will get in the way of your dreams coming true!

  60. Hello everyone, and thanks, Hypebot for giving us this opportunity to communicate with each other. I was most recently VP, International at the Univision Music Group where I was also involved in US digital and mobile promotion/marketing. I spent 15 years in the Anglo business before making the inevitable (for me) transition into the Latin music industry where I’ve spent the past 11 years. My position at Univision ended when the label group was recently purchased by Universal. I am excited about the opportunities fueled by the transformation and expansion of entertainment. Indeed, the changes force us to remember that it was always, and still is, only about the music.
Thanks again, Hypebot; what you’re doing is most appreciated.
    Namaste,
    Peggy

  61. I’m constantly doing research for a record label I started with some friends and I’m always coming through here.
There’s a couple dozen sites that offer music biz news and commentary but it seems to me like most of ’em leech from you, plus they don’t know shit and it shows in their commentary. So I come here. I also check Clyde Smith’s ProHiphop every day, he runs a very useful operation, too.

  62. As a stay-at-home artist that began recording for purely personal pleasure four or so years ago, I’ve branched out into three ‘bands’ and spent tons of time lately getting mobile phone games developed around certain tracks. It’s great fun and a terrific initiation into all things web2.0.
I’ve consequently explored the bedazzling ways of earning a crust from such pursuits, through the help of the handful of sites devoted to such endeavour, of which hypebot is definitely one.
This has taken me to developing my own support for the independent artist through on-going work in London & Cape Town that I hope, after it’s launch shortly, will introduce like-minded souls, give fans more of what they want and allow us a little extra food on all our tables in due course 🙂
Let’s keep chipping away at lessening Music 1.0’s dominance!

  65. My name is Daniel and I am from the Detroit area. I write and compose music under the moniker of Life Toward Twilight, and run a small, DIY label Bottle Imp Productions. We specialize in extreme fringe electronic music styles and appeal to a very tight niche. We make all of our music available to download, while also making it available for purchase. Our primary objective is spreading our music, not money, so we have a lot of room to experiment with new music distribution ideas.

  68. i run a small but successful indi hip-hop label. our main act is notable and accomplished (was signed to aftermath/interscope & rawkus) and recently (within the last few years) decided to break away from the “bs” deals he has been associated with and decided to go the diy-totally independent route with the music.
needless to say, hypebot has overwhelmingly inspired and helped us in breaking away and going independent. Thank you Bruce and all the contributors to hypebot for your assistance and direction. Truly one of the best and resourceful sites on the web.
    Please continue the good work!!!

  69. I look after licensing and label relations at We7 (www.we7.com) in London, one of the pioneers of where digital music meets advertising.
I eagerly read hypebot to keep abreast of the ever-changing landscape (kudos Bruce), and am pleased to see our name popping up here and there….like today !
I previously worked at BMG leading marketing teams, developing business and running companies. In a past life I was a musician, producer and music programmer.
    Music is my life…..
We7 is making considerable progress in ‘volatile waters’. Our consumer launch next month aims to build traffic to give the scale necessary to attract sustainable advertising revenues. Our main focus is UK initially, so not all content is available everywhere. In the UK fans can stream any music they want for free, and buy what they love (drm-free mp3s). And the label and artist always gets paid.
