DJ and production duo Thievery Corporation has partnered with both iLike and Facebook to stream the band’s new album "Radio Retaliation" exclusively beginning September 19th, five days before the album’s release..

This is the first time iLike and Facebook have jointly promoted a worldwide listening event, which will take place during the album’s exclusive window of pre-order availability at iTunes. Additionally, Thievery Corporation have made a series of video messages, in which they introduce and discuss the album, that iLike will premier and distribute across the Web.

“Apart from a few independent bastions, there is no musical or informational freedom on the U.S. airwaves…

anymore. They’ve been bought up, consolidated and homogenized,” said
Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation. “Music is suffering and Radio
Retaliation is about an exodus of conscious people who are willing to
acknowledge something is wrong. We chose iLike as the platform to debut
this record because it offers us a direct vehicle to share our music
and communicate with fans worldwide, free from editorializing or
whitewashing of our messages.”

“This record is our most internationally oriented, said Rob Garza of
Thievery Corporation. “We worked with artists from around the world so
it made intuitive sense to us to debut the album across the Web on
iLike. The roots of our inspiration have always come from what is
happening globally. It’s hard to close your eyes and sleep while the
world is burning around you. If you are an artist, this is the most
essential time to speak up."

In addition to being available on Thievery Corporation’s iLike page, the iLike worldwide Radio Retaliation listening party and exclusive Thievery Corporation video messages for fans will debut through the iLike Sidebar for iTunes and Windows Media Player (www.iLike.com/download), as well as on iLike’s leading application on Facebook. Facebook and iLike will promote this special online event via targeted placements across Facebook. The album will be available for pre-order via iLike’s retail links to iTunes. San Francisco based digital distributer INgrooves will handle distribution of Radio Retaliation worldwide excluding Australia and New Zealand.

  1. Yet another example of the direction the music industry is racing toward. Musicians are getting savvier when it comes to promoting themselves online through social media and fans are getting much more selective in how they consume new and old music. I like it, I like it!
