Free Private Beta Invites To Twones Music Tracker

Twones_4
Dutch startup Twones launched in private beta this week and Hypebot has 250 private beta invites. Funded by concert giant Live Nation, the Amsterdam based company tracks a user’s music activity both on their computer and online at 20 services including MySpace, YouTube, Last.fm and HypeMachine, gathering real-time activity and allowing them to store it and share it with friends.

Twones’ goal is to make playing music on the web more organized and enjoyable. "Let real people, relevant to you, collectively filter and recommend music and music services",  says Tim Heineke who with Diederik Martens and Johannes La Poutre founded Twones. "Our goal is letting users find great music and sites and services through relevant people on cool music sites. We work together with the other services, we don’t compete."

  1. I’m having a difficult time telling how this is any different than Last.fm, and how it does anything better. From what I can tell, it is trying to do Last.fm type scrobbling, but is leagues behind Last.fm in overall features and functions. Am I missing something here?

  2. It’s odd that they require you to install either a “Windows Tracker” or a “Firefox Tracker” in order to be able to track activity. I already scrobble to Last.fm and don’t want to install yet another “tracker” (dealbreaker is that you cannot import a Last.fm feed to your Twones profile).
It’s an interesting idea to be able to “scrobble” the entire Web, though I don’t find myself ever wanting to share my browsing activity with others.
