Longer one: Coldplay should cut him in as a writer on that song and hope their lawyer is better than his. Either way, this is pretty blatant plagiarism. I’ve done the same thing before where I thought I had this brilliant idea for a new song, then realized it was actually something I listened to in my iTunes library. At least I catch it before its put out before an international audience…
Yes, the melodies are nearly identical; however, the satriani song is pitch shifted and the tempo is slightly adjusted so the two songs “work” together. This makes the video biased. Go to lala.com, sign up for free account, and stream both songs for free. When I got to the end of the satriani song, I had forgotten about the “coldplay” lick at the beginning, but when I did hear it, I thought to myself, “sounds a whole lot like that coldplay song”.
