Grammy Winners: Plant & Krauss, Coldplay, Mayer
The Grammys are easy to dismiss as a relic of another time in the music industry when lavish parties and limos seemed appropriate. I personally haven't watched an entire show for years, but its hard to deny that on some level and for some genres, The Grammys still matter. It was also good to see a rather left field collaboration between Led Zep's Robert Plant & bluegrass queen Alison Krauss win both Album and Record Of The Year and three other awards on independent Rounder.
Album of the Year: "Raising Sand," Robert Plant and Alison Krauss; T Bone Burnett, producer. (Rounder)- Rap Album: "Tha Carter III," Lil Wayne (Cash Money/Universal Motown)
- Male Pop Vocal Performance: "Say," John Mayer; track from "Continuum" (Columbia)
- Record of the Year: "Please Read The Letter," Robert Plant and Alison Krauss
- New Artist: Adele
All the winners: quck but complete list of winners and official site.
Plant and Krauss. What a pile of crap – “Gone, Gone, Gone”. Plant was obviously afraid to face the Led Zep challenge and took the easy route. What about a duo with Miley Cyrus.
Thank god for Paul McCartney.
The European release of “Raising Sand” was distributed through Plant’s record deal with Decca, so it’s only half an indie album. I’m still surprised to see it nominated, yet winning even.
Where are the categories “Best Internet Exclusive Album / Song / whatever”? Do they even exist?
I guess they don’t because the Grammies are still a promotional outlet mainly for the majors, whereas internet exclusive albums are usually sold as CDs via artists websites or via a download store. Of these, especially the former is a domain of the indies, not of majors.
