  1. This is an important discussion for Artists. Find a good attorney (who will work on a retained basis not hourly) to help you chase down your money!

  2. This is a great post. This is definitely a foggy area in the music business. The scary thing is that major record companies still don’t know how to account for artist royalties with the new digital deals that they are making(“comes with music”; subscription services). And where there are places of uncertainty, there are places for opportunity. I spoke with George White from WMG a few months ago and he told “if someone can explain to artist and managers, how much money is being left on the table and create an accurate way to collect that revenue, they could make a lot of dough”

  3. Does anyone know who the reputable “Services” are who have sprung up to try and do this for artists?

  4. While exiting, remember it takes hard work.
    – Avoid any offer that promises you’ll make a lot of money for very little work.
    – Don’t rely on a money-back guarantee. Con artists rarely give money back.
    – Be wary of testimonials or endorsements.
    – See if the Better Business Bureau has a Reliability Report on the company.
    – Never give a credit card, debit card or checking account number to any person or company that promises employment. If they wantyou to pay them it’s a scam!
    – Keep a positive attitude. You are likely to fail a few times before you learn the ropes.
