New Chart Scans Web For Top Talk On Tracks
We Are Hunted combines activity on music blogs, social networks, forums, Twitter and P2P networks to create a daily chart of the 99 most talked about songs on the web.
You have to dig deep to find Britney and 50 Cent on the We Are Hunted chart. Instead almost unheard artists like Passion Pit, Bat For Lashes and St. Vincent – none of whom have registered yet on mainstream charts – are dominating the most recent online chatter according to the sites algorithms. As it should, the music does the talking on this chart: a single graphic, a play button and a buy link to iTunes are all that accompany each track on the chart.
Behind the We Are Hunted concept are digital consultant and sometimes Hypebot contributor Nick Crocker of Native Digital and top Australian search engine Wotnews.

am i supposed to believe that “I May Have A Drink” by The Gary got more social media streams that the eminem song posted at this myspace page (which is at nearly three million streams)? and more mentions at twitter? i’m not buying it. it appears way too hipster-friendly to be accurately represent what’s going on at, as the site says, “social networks, forums, music blogs, Torrents, P2P Networks and Twitter.”
i looked up gary + “i may have a drink” at twitter and got one item. i looked up eminem + “we made you” and got back seven pages of results just from the last 24 hours.
hmm…
