Despite Troubles, Poll Shows MySpace Still Important To Social Music

Myspace new

Earlier this week May stats were released that Facebook has passed MySpace in users and pageviews both in the US and wordwide.  Yesterday, MySpace announced a re-organization that will see 420 people or 30% of staffers loose their jobs.

Despite these troubles, as of Wednesday morning almost 78% of Hypebot readers responding to an ongoing poll say that MySpace is still an essential part of their music social networking efforts. 26.2% say that MySpace still "rules music" and 51.6% say that using MySpace alongsaide Facebook and other sites is "essential". (Updated results may vary slightly.)

  1. Every band has a myspace. It’s a good calling card just to portray basic information. But it’s a disaster for communication.
It’s weird though, how after so many years, and after so many other social network for bands saw the day of the light, Myspace is still numero uno out there.
Then again, almost everyband has a facebook page too.

  2. I agree with Robin, that every band has a Myspace page and “its a disaster for communication.” I personally have have better communication with fans on other networks like Twitter, because nowadays Myspace seems too spammy. Nothing but inbox’s filled with “check out my music” messages. No interest, just clutter.
In the meantime, I keep Myspace in the rotation of our marketing efforts. My label partner takes on our Facebook attack. Myspace still has sent visitors to our blog, so it still can serve many purposes.
