Perez Hilton Prances Into Warners As Predicted

Perez hilton cartoon What has been common gossip column gossip knowledge for months has come true.  Hollywood gossip whore Perez Hilton has been given his own record label by Warner Music.

Showing his deep intellectual grasp of the industry, Hilton told Entertainment Weekly, "I have an ear, which is really important in the music world – to be able to hear a hit and to be able to know who has a good song or not…".  And it appears that Hilton is part of Warner's promised 360 deal revolution, " I'm more than just an A&R person. I'm also a marketing person. I'm also a manager."

Perez's dubious claim to A&R fame is the he was an early supporter of Mika and Lady Gaga. ""I saw the potential in her from the very beginning before any one else." He'll announce his first signing later this money. (I wonder where all will be revealed?)

Do you think giving Perez Hilton his own record label was a smart move for Warner Brothers or if this just another example of a major label throwing money down the drain?

  1. I think its a major label throwing money down the drain but then Perex Hilton will come along as the good little boy returning what was once lost, with a lot of extra cash in both of their pockets.

  2. I thought Lefsetz had some good analysis on this one: “Do you really think Perez is going to trash Warner acts now that he’s in business with the company? Do you really think he’s not going to hype their acts?”
This is more of a PR move than anything else, with the hope that Perez’s fame will push records. I don’t think it will.

  3. Look, we all know that bloggers are the new eyes and ears of the industry. Who is the most recognizable blogger? Perez!
Whether or not Warner is throwing money down the drain is their problem. Perez obviously has no idea how to run a label, but he has generated an enormous amount of recognition with his own brand.
Why not give him a shot???

  4. I only wonder how long it will be before Perez changes from the anti-big corporation/say anything he wants blogger that he claims to be and becomes nothing more than another irrelevant industry marketing tool. As others have said being on Warner’s payroll just about guarantees he will start pushing warner acts.

  5. Perez’s fall from grace was when Will.i.am’s bodyguard smacked him in the face. This warner deal only pushes him further down Irrelevancy Lane. (ps.. how are you going to let Will.i.am punk you like that? CRIPPLE FIGHT!!)

  6. I didn’t know who Perez Hilton was 6 months ago. The fact that I’m reading this on Hypebot is a point on the board for the Hilton/WMG union.
The majors’ reliance on the Mickey Mouse Club school of entertainment means that they trust that kind of celeb hysteria.
The moniker Perez Hilton is fitting. Clive Davis and Rick Ruben were professional tastemakers. Perez is a professional scene whore.
In today’s entertainment economy, who’s ear is closer to the ground?
