Despite Hype Most Teens Don’t Use Twitter

Twitter's growth and the accompanying hype has encouraged music marketers to find innovative ways to use the service to help artists to stay hyper-connected with their most loyal fans.   But a small Morgan Stanley sampling last month claimed that Twitter adoption was not equal among all age categories. Now a far greater group, Nielson's 250K strong U.S. Net Ratings panel came to a similar conclusion: teens – usually the first to drive most social networking trends – tweet far less often than adults.

Twitter's is now a staple for 10.7% of active Internet users. But those impressive numbers come despite a lack of widespread adoption by children, teens, and young adults. In June 2009, only 16% were under the age of 25 even though that makes up maked up 25% of active US Internet users.
