The Beatles Give QVC A One Month Exclusive

Beatles QVC

The Fab Four

Celebrate the iconic music of The Beatles! QVC brings you 14 digitally remastered CDs one month before the worldwide release date. Jam out with "The Beatles: Rock Band" limited-edition bundle. Plus, shop apparel, collectibles, and more.

Even a year ago I would have said seeing "The Beatles", "QVC"and "one month before the worldwide release" all in one paragraph was in the "when pigs fly" category.  But with CD and game sales both in the dumper, should I really be surprised?

And (no offense to the Fab Four), but does anyone want to buy the albums for the third or fourth time? Is this the part of the strategy being designed to save EMI?

  1. QVC is doing an amazing job on hyping this considering that these albums and video games won’t even ship until September. You’d do just as well with a pre-order anywhere else.
So why is this news? Because their marketing has been excellent.

  2. My speculation has been that EMI knocked assorted Beatles+heirs heads together and told them that Holidays 2009 was the Last Call for mainstream CD sales, so if the remasterings were ever going to be done, it had to be NOW.
The remasterings are definitely needed; my European Beatles LPs from the 1970s sounded better than the 1980s CD issues. This isn’t just a cash-in. Fans are going to be staggered by the quality, presuming the label gets it right this second time around.

  3. I’ve thought that Amanda Palmer’s online auction was really just a variation of QVC, so this tends to emphasize the point. Whether your fans are online or watching the TV, it’s real-time direct selling.
