Hypebot Exclusive: Pre-Beta Invites To Rank ‘Em

image from www.gorankem.com Internet music-ranking platform Rank ‘em will enter public beta on January 19th, but Hypebot has exclusive pre-public invites now.  Based in Athens, GA, Rank 'em is crowdsourcing music discovery by asking fans to rank their favorite songs.  Then fan favorites are aggregated by artist.

The site also just got a makeover. "Rank 'em is building the ultimate resource for accelerating music discovery,” says CEO Adam Wexler, “while still adding that shine that the site was lacking in its private stages.” The makeover includes an improved home and search page, as well as an expansion of the leader board to recognize the top-tier contributing rankers.
Rank ‘em will soon also implement a recommendation system, where fellow users can recognize and/or give “props” to other members’ taste in music or quality of rankings.

Get your free pre-public beta invite:

Go to the Rank 'em invite page, give them your name and email and type in hypebot (lower case) in the  "Enter Code" field.

Come back and share with other Hyepbot readers what you think.

  1. thanks for the mention, bruce.
we’re hoping to address the first step in the music discovery process when everybody seems to ask “what’s ____’s best song?”
it’s also our ultimate goal to sort through the catalogs of every artist of all-time based on the collective opinions of those that know them best –their own fans.
while the end of the year (and decade) are upon us, everybody seems to be digesting or making their ‘best of’ lists. if you love lists & you love music, we think you’ll love rank ’em 🙂

p.s. we’d love to hear any & all feedback you may have.feel free to reach out adam[at]gorankem[dot]com we’re always open to discussing potential collaborations as well…

  2. Pretty clunky. Long delay in search, failure to recognize my login after the first time. Buggy buggy buggy! Keep trying, nice idea.

  3. Yeah, I’m not feeling it. Of course the bugs will get worked out over time, but this seems like Last.fm’s charts without getting to listen to the music. I guess a more subtle difference would be it’s opinion based rather than being based on actual streams/scrobbles.
If I simply want to see what Kings of Leon songs are popular, I can go to http://www.last.fm/music/Kings+of+Leon and also hear a whole lot of tracks in full.
    Good luck.

  4. Geez, layoff a little…its pre beta. I’m sure Adam is going to roll out a ton of updates to the UI and user experience.
Although, this feedback is great because Im sure it is just what he is looking for before making it open to the general public. (Something that the folks of VEVO should have done)

  5. bassdropper –
thanks for passing along the bug. by no means is Rank ’em perfect, and we would love to hear any additional feedback you may have. thanks for the belief in our mission!

it’s never been our intention to become the next streaming destination. it’s a crowded space, and everybody seems to be involved with the same messy royalty issues.
in order to promote the entire catalog, we believe 30-sec clips would be more conducive for facilitating this exposure. ideally, they would be listed next to each & every song, but we’ve been bootstrapping this project for 28+ months and can’t support the expense at this stage.
as is, we offer you the ability to click straight to each artist page on amazon to “preview all” of their song clips. if you rank ’em, you are also allowed to open up the YouTube videos so IMO it creates a personal “Greatest Hits” playlist 🙂
    kara-
i don’t think Rank ’em is much like blippr. if you’re looking for random reviews, they got you covered. we are singularly focused on music & sorting through the catalogs of every artist of all-time. unlike almost every list-making site i’ve come across, we provide you with the choices so you don’t have to rack your brain or forget about some of your favorites. lastly, we aggregate the collective opinion for each band…two heads are better than one 🙂

  6. Jay-
i believe i know what you’re referring to, but i don’t think it’s firefly & i can’t seem to dig it up ….firefly happens to be a great drink out of charleston, sc though 😉
if i do remember correctly, they have a widget that allows you to rank your favorites from a customizable list? it’s a similar idea, but we are fully focused on perfecting our music solution. check it out & i’d love to hear how they compare (i wish i could see it to reference)

  7. last.fm’s charts are probably the closest thing available. yet, they fail to include a human element and their results are often skewed based on a variety of variables (itunes shuffle, commercial exposure, free downloads, etc.)
“If I simply want to see what Kings of Leon songs are popular”
that’s precisely what Rank ’em is all about. who’s to say the most popular songs are necessarily the best ones? beyond that, who knows each artist’s material better than their own fans? we’ve created the crowdsourced solution for each fanbase to gather together and rank their favorites for each of 400k+ artists. make sense?

  8. danny-
it’s no sweat. we value all the feedback good & bad. like you said, there’s plenty of work to be done, but the foundation is in place:
we provide you with teh catalog to choose from –> rank your favorite songs from all your favorite artists –> resource that we all can rely on 🙂
