Square isn't the only service offering mobile credit card processing, but with no contract, a free card scanner and clear terms, Square may just be the easiest way to start taking credit cards at your merch table. It's compatible with the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and all Android devices.
So I signed up for Square … all excited to try it out … but you can’t do a thing ’til a) after you’ve passed a credit check and b) they send you the little “square” swiper. And of course, “due to overwhelming demand” they can’t say when they’re gonna send the swiper, and you can’t manually punch in numbers in the meantime. Wouldn’t you think that this is gonna be a big deal, so you’d stock up on the item? Just a thought ….
Actually, the majority of Android devices out there are 1.5 or 1.6 and this requires 2.0 or later. Still great but “all Android devices” is slightly misleading. 🙂
Intuit GoPay Mobile works just as good if not better. We’ll see how all this pans out as this space grows.
Poor planning on their part for launching without enough ‘squares’. You only get a brief chance before people move on to the next thing…
