Photo: You Mean Those Speaker Stacks Are Fake?

image from www.ryanadamsarchive.com(UPDATED) Some bands have always used empty Marshall speaker cabinets to make it look like they're turning things up to 11 when it's really the sound system doing all the heavy lifting.  But Gizmodo has the most amusing proof yet of fake stakes that don't even bother to try to recreate the back 95% of the amp and speakers.

  1. There are far more bands than you would like to think that use this technique.
In fact, stage monitor technology and digital effects have come so far in the last 5 years, that its almost pointless to bother taking an amp to a gig anymore! Unless you just want to look good that is 🙂

  2. Digital modeling SUCKS! You don’t need stacks of amps any more, but the day has not yet come when tubes can be truly emulated.

  3. You think your tube amp still sounds like a tube amp by the time it’s passed through a rack-full of digital effects processors, to the FOH, and the listener? Rrrright….
