Atomic Tom Perfoms With iPhones On Subway Ride

image from insomniaradio.net Last month, Atomic Tom had their instruments stolen. Not to be dismayed, the group teamed up for a subway show on their iPhones. It's compelling. Four guys having the time of their lives and creating the music they love. The song is heartfelt and moving. Many groups can't even perform their real music, using real instruments, plugged into a PA system at a venue. These guys are killing it on four iPhones, a small speaker system, and just plain spirit. Take a look:

Editor's Note: The feedback that this video has gotten on other blogs relates to questions raised like: Is the story of getting their geer stolen really true? Did they get paid by Apple to do this? And just how much planning went into this stunt?

  1. Piecing together from those in the know – their gear is intact (their videos are tongue-in-cheek), Apple knew nothing about this until it aired and did not pay them to do it (though if I were Steve Jobs I would get the rights…) and they rehearsed a little bit over the past month while on tour. Here’s another on of theirs that is my fav – a spoof on Rock Stars…

  2. This is a great video & helps the band reach more people which can translate into more fans. I guess this also supports the trend of going mobile. Great work!

  3. Why did they bother with the “instruments stolen” storyline? Or come up with any fake story? All they should have done is just play the song on iPhones. Come to think of it, why bother to have a band in the traditional sense? There are some very clever things being done on iPhones and iPads by people who don’t play in bands, don’t have record deals, and don’t play traditional instruments. I think that’s the real story.

  4. Boy do they suck. Don’t allow them to play instruments, there should be a law against that.

  5. I would think Universal could afford iPads… another case of major label astroturfing.
