Are 3D Music Videos Still Cool? Were They Ever?
In the last six months, we've written about a number of cool music videos that deserved a little attention. This band empowered 24,000 fans to star in their music video. This is a brilliant, crowdsourced music video of Johnny Cash fan art. Andy Grammer did a neat, choose-your-own adventure style video. This video uses 700,000 Lite-Brite pegs. They're all compelling in their own way. But is a 3D music video still cool? I can't decide.
Hypebot caught wind of this music video by Pepper and I'm unsure if it's anything worth mentioning. Alas, I am mentioning it now, but that's what readers are for.
It seems like 3D music videos caught a second-wind once Avatar got popular.
Perhaps, because of this, they still feel gimmicky to me. Not that any of the music videos I listed above aren't gimmicks. They are. In researching this a bit, I also came across a 3D music video that doesn't require glasses. Pepper's does.
Yes, they will mail you a pair for free. But fans can't enjoy the video instantly. So, to me, it kind of defeats the purpose of attempting to go viral. What's your take?
