Google CEO Eric Schmidt Steps Down

image from www.ieplexus.comEffective April 4th, Google co-founder Larry Page will be replacing Eric Schmidt as CEO.

Page will take over day-today operations and Schmidt will be stay on as an executive chairman. In this role, according to the company, he will be "focusing externally on deals, partnerships, customers and broader business relationships, government outreach and technology thought leadership."

The goal of this move is to ease the process of decision making and simplify their management structure. This will also make their roles more clear, meaning that the buck now stops at Page. He will focus on internal affairs, specifically "product development and technology strategy." For the music industry, this means that the fate and greatness of Google Music now comes down to Page and his vision for the service. It may not need to be a game-changing, but the product better be worth the Buzz. If it's not, everyone will know exactly where to cast the blame.
