Simple, Effective Cross Promotion – Folk Artists Cover Each Other’s Singles, Tour U.S. Together

image from userserve-ak.last.fm Love a fellow musician's song? Do they love your music too? Perfect. Cover each other's singles and take off on a tour of the U.S. That's the strategy being employed by folk-singer Joe Pug and Philadelphia's Strand of Oaks. Before the tour launched, Pug covered "End in Flames" by Strand of Oaks, and Strand of Oaks covered Pug's "Hymn #101".

Both songs can be freely downloaded and listened to via SoundCloud.

Now Pug and Strand of Oaks are taking off on a 47 date tour; it kicks off on March 31 in Austin, TX. This is a simple, yet effective strategy to introduce fans to the group you're touring with, and if you love their music – all the better.

Chances are that fans will love their the music too.

What great cross promotional tactics have you seen lately?

  1. Peter Gabriel tried this a few years back. He covered songs from his favourite artists … unfortunately they didn’t reciprocate as planned … embarrassing for poor Pete.
