Why Musicians Should Never Wash Their Clothes

image from blog.tinyprints.com "The Yale team found that a sweater owned by a popular celebrity became more valuable to people if they learned it had actually been worn by their idol.

But if the sweater had subsequently been cleaned and sterilized, it seemed less valuable to the fans, apparently because the celebrity’s essence had somehow been removed." – John Tierney, NYT.

The takeaway: If you have superfans, forget the Tide.

  1. 1. See, there’s a bit of implied sarcasm here, and honestly, I found the research to be interesting. Given how much we talk about superfans and selling scarce goods, it’s kind of funny that clothes aren’t worth anything if you wash them.
Hence, the short, but fun post.
    2. As long as you have an account at NYT, the links aren’t dead. Yes, there is going to be a paywall erected, but for now, the links work just fine.
