Lady Gaga & David Bowie On Becoming A Star

image from www.digitalmusicinsider.com "I had a boyfriend who told me I’d never succeed, never be nominated for a Grammy, never have a hit song, and that he hoped I’d fail. I said to him, ‘Someday, when we’re not together, you won’t be able to order a cup of coffee at the fucking deli without hearing or seeing me.”

  1. Too bad we don’t get to hear about the millions who said things like that but never made it.

  2. I was just thinking the other day how each decade since the dawn of pop/rock that each decade there has been at least one artist who is the chameleon of the record industry. Someone who has shocked audiences with their outfits as much as their social status. In the 2000’s it was Lady Gaga, the 90’s it was Marilyn Manson, the 80’s had Maddona, the 70’s had Bowie. I still can’t think of one from the 60’s (the Beatles in general?) and I guess Elvis would be the version of the 50’s. What’s interesting is that just about all of these artists only stayed fresh and relevent as long as they were shocking audiences and people in general (Beatles excluded). Labels love artists who will do anything they can to get people’s attention. When they finally get tired of the game your carrer slowly dies no matter if they’re still making good music or not (in most cases not), but that could have more to do with the label not investing as much money them anymore.

  3. Yes it’s unfair to put Gaga in the same basket with a true legend as David Bowie..But still, she made her dream..Respect..

  4. I once herd David Bowie say that one of the most important thing to his success was that he acted like a a rockstar until he because.
Call it “the secret” or whatever you want but I think that’s very important.
