When Fan Clubs Attack

image from www.celebrityaccess.com A coalition of 35 Michael Jackson fan clubs have called for the cancellation of the planned Michael Jackson tribute concert set for Oct. 8 in Wales, claiming that the event is "doomed to fail." The tribute concert, promoted by Global Live Events, has a lineup that includes Chistina Aguilera, Smokey Robinson, Cee Lo Green as well as Beyonce (performing by satellite) and will be held at the 75,000 capacity Millenium Stadium in Cardiff.

According to Reuters, the group, Fans against Michael Forever Tribute, has sent an open letter to the tribute's promoters, demanding that they pull the plug on the event. Among the grievances cited by the coalition are the ongoing trial of Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray, the no-guarantee policy of performers and the lack of clarity over which charitable organizations proceeds from the tribute will benefit.

The event previously aroused the ire of fans by including the band Kiss on the lineup. Kiss bassist Gene Simmons previously stated during an interview that he believed Jackson to be guilty of the molestation charges he was acquited of in 2005. Global Live Events, claiming they 'heard the fans' bumped Kiss from the lineup, but apparently, it wasn't enough.

"From the timing of this tribute, in the middle of Dr. Murray's trial, to the ticketing prices, to the obscurity over what charities will be receiving the donation, to the no-guarantee policy of performers, the addition of Gene Simmons and dishonouring, thus tarnishing Michael Jackson's legacy was simply the last straw." said the letter, which was posted on the coalition's Facebook page. – from CelebrityAccess
