Sean Parker: “There’s Blood In The Water For Labels” Over Spotify Royalty Payments

The size of Spotify payments to artists has led to an ongoing and often contentious debate. But Napster co-founder and Spotify investor Sean Parker sees it more as a problem between artists and labels, some of whom own a stake in the music streamer. "There's blood in the water for labels," Parker said at SXSW.

"Spotify has to remain neutral; the biggest contribution we can make is transparency," stated Parker in Austin.

At Napster "we only thought about the pure business elements, how it could benefit the consumer… we didn't understand what all this meant to the record executives,"  added his Napster co-founder Sean Fanning.

  1. First, Parker creates a service, Napster, that leads to a flood of competition for companies whose “business model” is to provide other’s copyrighted material for free while they profit from advertising and subscription upgrades.
Now, ten years later, his original “business model” has had such an impact on music, film and book sales that his new “legitimate” company, Spotify, can now pay pennies on the dollar for what was once considered a valuable commodity.
If there’s blood in the water, it should be Parkers.

  2. Off with Parkers head. Period. He has blood on his hands and always will have. He’s a bloodless, twerp Nero who thought he was saving the world by sticking it to the cigar smoking fat cat music exec. Cartoon fu**ing hero making up a cartoon villain. He’s a total dick no matter how much he’s worth.
