Grammys Restore Latin Jazz Album Award, Add & Combine More Categories
One year after the Grammy's dropped 31 categories, they're making even more changes. After outcries and protests from the Latin music community the Grammys have reinstated the award for the best Latin jazz album. The Academy's annual Board of Trustees meeting last month also netted several new awards.
Added are awards for "best urban contemporary album" designed to honor R&B albums that may include elements of pop and rock and "best classical compendium" that will turn the spotlight on albums "involving a mixture of classical sub-genres."
The award for best Latin pop, rock or urban album is now two awards - best Latin pop album and best Latin rock, urban or alternative album. The Banda or Norteno album and best regional Mexican or Tejan album awards have also been combined into one award – best regional Mexican music album.
