The Agenda Show Day 1: Inside Streetwear Culture

599889_414045501974998_1918175740_nOne of the premier trade events showcasing the latest in streetwear fashion, The Agenda Show got underway yesterday in New York’s SoHo district. This two-story event saw hundreds of people from all over the artist/creative scene from musicians, painters, photographers, and even big-name music artists and executives stopping by to take a look at the popular streetwear scene, which has become an increasingly popular avenue for musicians.

This year’s Agenda show is housed appropriately in a former clothing factory at 82 Mercer in the heart of New York City’s trendy shopping district. Agenda hosts more than 115 brands (big and small) showcasing the latest in product to buyers from outlets like Urban Outfitters, Atrium, Zumiez and Jack’s, plus eager streetwear fans exited to see next season’s product offerings. The event takes place in an open and spacious enviroment in an area home to shops from popular brands such as Burton, DC, Supreme, WeSC, Vans, The Hundreds, and more.

We’ll be following up with a deeper look into streetwear in an upcoming post, but for those not familiar with streetwear, it can be broadly defined as a distinctive style of fashion (and the accompanying lifestyle) with roots in skateboarding and skate fashion while also carrying an influence from hip-hop music and culture. Modern day streetwear has grown to be more of a blend of skate and surf clothing and is by no means beholden to hip-hop music It has now become a huge avenue for music artists to reach new audiences, as many of these streetwear brands possess die-hard fans of their own and tend to work with artists that are a natural fit for their brand image, lifestyle, and audience.

The Agenda Show continues with its second and final day today in New York City, and Hypebot’s Hisham Dahud is in attendance to get the full scoop on the scene and finding out more about the important role music plays within the culture.

Stay tuned for a follow-up post from Agenda.
