Free Web-Sourced Playlist Creator Musicplayr Launches Public Beta

Screen Shot 2012-10-25 at 10.58.41 AMComing off a recent $625,000 seed
investment
from Lars Langusch of Holzbrink Venures, Berlin-based music tech
startup Musicplayr has just ended its closed beta period. The free, cross-platform service allows
users to create an online music profile by collecting music links from YouTube,
SoundCloud, Vimeo, Dailymotion and music blogs, allowing them to organize and
play songs from multiple Internet sources
as a sharable playlist.

Musicplayr has also rolled out a set of new
features to the site including a rethought dashboard of the most active users &
most popular songs on the
service, options to choose desired audio/video
playback quality, and more customizable music profiles. While the personal music profile is still the heart of
Musicplayr’s functionality, the profiles can now be customized with
individual background images, which the company believes gives users a better
way to reveal their personality and style.

"This is the first open version of
Musicplayr," says Stefan Vosskötter, founder and CEO. "We will
continue to respond to user feedback, and are currently working on two major
features. Firstly, Musicplayr will become a self-organizing service that uses
the latest audio fingerprint technology."

This song recognition technology provides
the user with track and artist details.

"Secondly," Vosskötter adds,
"the implementation of this technology will make it possible to launch our
iPhone app that can identify a song and store it directly onto a user’s music
profile."

Musicplayr currently users tag tracks (indie, folk), but the company is planning a Gracenote integration for music identification. A paid version will likely be added.

  1. Love the part that says Content precedes design. Design in the absence of content is not design, its decoration. I’m not too sure about that, people who are not that computer knowledgeable tend to look more on design rather than reading about stuff first.

  2. Hisham, just signed up with MusicPlayr now. Followed a few people and started listening to my stream. Positive first impressions. I’m all for any service that’s thoughtfully built, that helps me discover more music.
Curious to see if web-based discovery catches on. I personally prefer using apps for discovery, especially while I’m on the go, on mobile apps. The HTML5 vs native debate, however, continues. Clearly this team is betting on a more open, platform independent discovery. Congratulations on the funding and best of luck to the team.
