Robby Towns Joins NARM's digitalmusic.org, Antony Bruno Exits

Solving The Symphony Crisis

The San Francisco Symphony has been on strike for over two weeks with musicians demanding higher wages while concert attendance has faced significant decreases. Earlier in the season, Chicago had its own strike. According to Musician Wages, “both the musicians and the management of our major orchestras are overpaid” and this is causing many problems. Spotify Eyes Video Streaming, Unveils First-Ever $10M Ad Campaign

The addition of video would offer the kind of single access, single subscription service that consumers increasingly prefer; and with iTunes, Amazon and YouTube all planning music streaming services, the addition of video could be the defensive play that Spotify needs to survive.

Concord Music Group Sold To Wood Creek Capital

The acquisition is being made on behalf of funds which Wood Creek advises, and an individual investor group that includes members of Concord’s senior management and industry veterans Steve Smith and Scott Pascucci.

iTunes Sales Are Making Apple Money, No Longer Just A Lure For Hardware

When iTunes began it was designed to make money for Apple via the sale of iPods. So the assumption since then has always been that Apple doesn't make money off music especially since Apple has long presented iTunes as a "break-even" proposition. An upcoming report from Asymco estimates that Apple is doing quite well off sales via iTunes though it's the software that is likely to be generating the most revenue.
