CODEMKRS Announces Winners Of New Orleans’ First Music Hakathon
With festival season in full swing, New Orleans
based non-profit CODEMKRS hosted the state’s first
music hackathon in a 24 hour “code festival” held this weekend at the University of New Orleans. The winner was Consearch which used The Echo Nest and
Songkick API’s to give local concert recommendations.
Second place went to Viral Tracks which is a band to band audience swapping marketplace for bands to help each other get their music heard by another bands’ audience.
Third place went to Buskerue, a street musician finder and scavenger hunt app made by a team featuring Sweet Home New Orleans, MACNO, and digitaltipjar.com. The Artist Choice award went to Circle, a street team management app, which was made by a team of UNO students and Winter Circle Productions.
Other notable apps included:
- Air Drummist which uses video capture to trigger drum sounds
- I’ll Blank Blank Blank holds people accountable for what they say they are going to do and is meant to reinforce spontaneous awesomeness occurring
- Fest Flag (made solo by Codemkr Elliott Fleming) which allows people to find their friends at crowded festivals by placing a “digital flag” on a festival map
- I-Go I-Go was created by a team led by author Dave Walker as an app to bring his book (released 20 years ago named American Rock and Roll Tour) into the 21st century and give people a way to find out what historic music events happened in what places in the city.
Judges include Reid Wick from the
GRAMMYs, Dr. Madhi Abdelgeurfi, the Chair of UNO Computer Science, Sherri
McConnell, the former executive director of Louisiana Entertainment, Wild Wayne
radio host on Q93 and founder of Industry Influence conference, and James
Andrews.
