The Balance Of Influence Has Shifted

Old-mediaBy Brian Thompson of Thorny Bleeder.

i sent a tweet this morning, questioning the ethics of what a popular band was doing. judgement reserved, i was simply asking what people's perceptions might be.

twenty minutes later, not only did my phone ring from their record label's office in Toronto, but their manager also sent a personal email explaining the situation further.

one guy sitting at his kitchen table, with a twitter account and an audience, can be seen as dangerous to some… or powerful to others.

the balance of influence has shifted, never to be regained by those who so desperately once clung to old corporate media.

  1. Impressive, but maybe a guy with 14K Twitter followers is really no longer just a guy in a kitchen tweeting. Especially to a band that “only” has 28K followers. You are an influencer with a pretty large platform.
