Video Tools: Vimeo Upgrades PRO, TouchCast Revolutionizes Videocasts, Clipcam Mobilizes Editing

Touchcast-logoWith a variety of forces drawing even more attention to video on the web, we'll continue to see upgraded, revised and new services for every level of videographer. Vimeo's upgraded their PRO features following last month's upgrade of Vimeo On Demand. TouchCast has introduced what could be a radical new form of videocasting. And Clipcam is part of the new wave of mobile video apps that allow you to edit your clips into a final version which you can then distribute from the app.

Vimeo Upgrades PRO Features

Last month Vimeo announced new features for Vimeo On Demand, their streaming and download sales offering. This week Vimeo followed with upgrades to Vimeo PRO accounts including:

"Store up to 1,000 GB a year…With the new Vimeo PRO, you can upload 20GB each week — in other words, about 5 hours of HD video every 7 days."

"Unlimited plays everywhere….totally unchecked, completely unrestricted, and utterly unlimited plays anywhere their videos appear online."

"1-hour email support, around the clock. Get help super swiftly, 24 hours a day on business days Eastern Time, and 1-day email support on weekends."

Vimeo PRO is priced at $199 a year. Free and Vimeo Plus pricing is also available.

TouchCast Creates New Video/Interactive Web Combination

If TouchCast is what I think it is, it's pretty darn cool and may well open up a new world of videocasting and vlogging.

Basically you make a video, add stuff from the web to the video like you're some kind of tv announcer and they're showing you and a box of something on the screen, and then you end up with a multimedia, interactive TouchCast.

Right now it's just available for iPad. From what I can tell, a desktop version is on the way as is an Android version which I think will only be for tablets. I get the impression this would be difficult to operate on a mobile phone.

TouchCasts can be posted on YouTube but they lose interactivity at that point.

Here's more from the iPad app description:

"A TouchCast is a video that is fully browsable, responsive, and alive. Webpages, images, and an assembly of video Apps (vApps) can be tapped for a two-way video experience."

"It's a TV studio in your hands. Create broadcast-quality videos with a built-in teleprompter, green screen, visual filters, sound effects, and titles. Watch TouchCasts from the app or online at TouchCast.com."

I look forward to a desktop version for Mac so I can try it out.

Clipcam Offers Mobile Video Editing

First came apps that allowed you to shoot a few seconds of video at a time. Then came apps that allowed you to connect those snippets into a short stream of amazing content. Now come apps that allow you to get a bit more complex with editing and related features.

Recently I included Cameo in a video news brief and now I present to you Clipcam for iOS.

"Capture video clips and assemble them into short movies with Clipcam, designed exclusively for iOS 7."

"Record multiple square format video clips with beautiful live filters. View those clips in a composition and drag to reorder them. Watch all your clips cut together as a short film. Share your composition via SMS, iMessage, Email, Facebook, Vimeo, Flickr and more."

Sounds promising. I think the ability to quickly shoot, edit and distribute videos easily from one app definitely has potential while keeping things relatively simple.
