AmpSession Offers Jean Grae Music Biz Class, Joins Techstars Risingstars Program

Ampsession-logoAmpSession launched in 2014 as a music industry community platform featuring on and offline classes as well as events. Tonight at 8 pm ET (apologies for the late notice) they're offering a one-hour workshop with Jean Grae on breaking into the music industry. They also joined the Techstars Risingstars Program which is a selective education and mentorship program for demographics underrepresented in tech entrepreneurship designed to prepare them for tech startup accelerators.

AmpSession says they were founded in 2014 to transform "isolated & frustrated do-it-yourself music-makers into a community of empowered music entrepreneurs through online and offline classes and events."

Class With Rapper Jean Grae

The classes seem to be the biggest feature of AmpSession and tonight they're offering Breaking into the Music Industry with Jean Grae.

The one-hour session is $25 plus a small ticketing fee but AmpSession's site says they're also developing free resources and classes for musicians who want to learn more about the industry.

Unfortunately I encountered some reasonably serious glitches. Neither the "Join Community" tab nor the "Sign in" buttons seemed to be working in Firefox or Chrome on a Mac. Hopefully that's a temporary glitch cause it's hard to build a community if people can't join.

Techstars Risingstars Program

AmpSession also recently announced that they were accepted into theTechstars Risingstars Program that "extends technology company startup opportunities to demographic groups that are currently underrepresented in the technology startup community."

It's basically a mentorship program which can last for up to a year. Founders stay where they are. There's no funding for equity involved.

The process builds to application to one of Techstars accelerator programs or eventually to other programs. That's a great opportunity to get support and introductions to the networks that matter for music tech startups taking the accelerator route.
