Fullscreen MCN Acquired by Otter Media, Cuts Monetization Deal With Loudr

Fullscreen-logoFullscreen is a leading multi-channel network on YouTube that has been making the move to be something more. That includes providing services to their clients. One recent addition was a music distribution and monetization deal with Loudr. Today Fullscreen had even bigger news with the announcement that Otter Media, a partnership between The Chernin Group and AT&T, will purchase a majority stake in Fullscreen.

Fullscreen is one of the top multi-channel networks on YouTube though they don't seem to use that phrase. They work with a wide range of creators on YouTube, including musicians, to build their brands and monetize their videos.

Music Monetization With Loudr

The competition among MCNs has been growing and they also need to build their businesses, so they now do more to help creators and, in some cases, are looking for ways to move beyond YouTube. Fullscreen recently turned to Loudr to help their clients monetize their music.

The deal includes a better rev share with Loudr keeping only 15% on cover songs rather than 30% as is their normal take to cover licensing costs.

In addition, Fullscreen creators can:

  • Sell your music on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Loudr, and beyond
  • License cover songs so you can monetize your recordings
  • Split earnings with your collaborators
  • Get started completely free!

So clients can make some money and also have a presence beyond YouTube.

Otter Media Takes Controlling Stake

Otter Media, the joint venture between AT&T and The Chernin Group, is self-described in an earlier video business acquisition announcement as:

"focused on acquiring, investing in and launching over-the-top (OTT) video services, positioning the alliance to take advantage of the rapid growth of OTT subscription video services."

They continue on that path with today's announcement that they will be taking a majority stake in Fullscreen. Founder George Strompolos remains as CEO.

Fullscreen is said to work with "more than 50,000 content creators who engage 450 million subscribers and generate 4 billion monthly views."

With Otter Media's support, it seems even more likely that the vision of Strompolos will be realized:

"Imagine recreating NBCUniversal or Viacom in today’s online world. What would that look like? How would it be different? Would you have 10 channels or 10,000 channels? We are in the process of figuring all of this out at Fullscreen. We envision a global network, accessible on multiple platforms, built on incredible technology and fueled by the creativity of thousands."

"This is not about recreating the old Hollywood system – why would we move backwards? This is about innovation. Fullscreen is building a global network and studio model for the future of video."
