Prince Calls Record Contracts “Slavery,” Says Jay Z Is Building a “One Stop Shop For Artists”

princePrince shared his candid opinions of the music industry during a wide ranging sit down with 10 black journalists at his Paisley Park studios on Saturday night.  Here are some highlights via several sources:

On the music industry:

“You just have to blow it up. That’s what it’s going to take.”

“Record contracts are just like — I’m gonna say the word — slavery. I would tell any young artist… don’t sign.”

On helping other artists:

"Once we have our own resources, we can provide what we need for ourselves,"

"Jay Z spent $100 million of his own money to build his own service. We have to show support for artists who are trying to own things for themselves."

On Jay Z and Tidal:

"I sat down with Jay, and I really like what he is doing. He’s trying to eventually be a one-stop shop for the artist.”
