Facebook Amps Up Music Discovery, Sharing With “Stories”

Music-storiesFacebook has tried and mostly failed at making music a part of its hugely popular platform.  Acknowledging that "there are few things people love more than music, Facebook today announced another attempt; and though a basic one, its an important first step.

Music-storiesOn the Facebook iPhone app, songs and albums shared from Apple Music or Spotify will now become “Music Stories,” a new Facebook post format which enable a 30-second audio preview. The preview is streamed from either Apple Music or Spotify (depending on the source of the link shared), and can be purchased from or saved to the respective music streaming service.

Previews from Apple Music and iTunes are available directly through Facebook. If users want to hear more, they can click through to stream full tracks or add to their library with a single click to purchase through iTunes.

Previews from Spotify are also available directly through Facebook.  Users can click through to stream full tracks on Spotify or add to their library without leaving Facebook.

More Services To Be Added

Facebook says that they will expand "Music Story support for additional streaming music services soon. We would also expect Facebook to add more music related features in the coming months.
