Utab: Affordable Music Video Creation Tools That Engage Active Fans

LJxcOk8TFor entrepreneauring DIY artists, video is an essential component of constructing and maintaining a fanbase. Due largely in part to their low cost, lyric videos in particular have become a popular way for artists to disseminate their music to the masses, something which Utab helps artists take a step further.

For musicians hoping to pursue a career in the digital age, video has become essential for building and maintaining a fanbase. YouTube has replaced MTV as the outlet of choice for music video consumption as independent artists work to get their music heard (and seen) by new audiences, and lyric videos have become a cheap alternative to cost-prohibitive professional video shoots.

But how can songwriters take control of these videos as a fan-engagement tool, and go one step further to empower them to easily learn their songs?

FrackUtab is a platform that uses a set of proprietary technologies that creates cost-effective videos that bring together lyrics, guitar chord diagrams, and piano fingerings, perfectly synched to an audio track.  Their Utab for Artists (https://www.utabforartists.com/) platform allows the upload of a WAV or Mp3 to the Utab site, followed by the lyrics. Within 24-48 hours the video is emailed and can then be uploaded or streamed as the artist wishes (https://youtu.be/yUrAuEHd2zI) facilitating engagement with Active Music Lovers, those who like to learn, practice, or just play along with their favorite songs.

Utab sprang from a team of musicians who were also tech savvy, based in Tel Aviv. Using machine learning techniques, they created two separate technologies; one that could extract chords from any track, and one that could generate videos programmatically. The combination created a powerful yet inexpensive new tool for artists to engage fans in a more dynamic way.

“Our main insight was that many musicians in the indie world find it truly challenging to maintain a robust digital presence,” explains Utab CEO Ofer Oved. “These videos help make that less of a challenge, in a very economical way. We are an extra layer for musicians, to enhance their digital assets and may cooperate with platforms and companies that aim to help musicians with their business and marketing.”
