50,000 Sign Petition Asking Maroon 5 To Skip Super Bowl Show In Support Of Colin Kaepernick, #TakeAKnee

Maroon 5 Drop Out of the Super Bowl Halftime Show · Change orgJust under 50,000 have already signed a Change.org petition calling for Maroon 5 to drop out of performing as part of  the Superbowl halftime show in February. The band are rumored to have accepted the gig even after Rihanna turned it down in support of former NFL player Colin Kaepernick and other players.

Kaepernick originated the 'take a knee' protest over police brutality and racial inequality in the United States.

Rihanna reportedly turned down an offer to perform in front of over 100 million people at the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show in support of the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback.

Jay-Z turned also down a request to perform at the 2017 Super Bowl, and addressed it in his 2018 song Apesh*t:  “I said no to the Super Bowl: you need me, I don't need you. Every night we in the endzone, tell the NFL we in stadiums too," while the music video shows a line of men on one knee."

From the petition:

"Until the league changes their policy and support players’ constitutional right to protest, no artists should agree to work with the NFL. Join me in asking Maroon 5 to drop out of the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show…

The band has a chance to stand on the right side of history. If they don’t, they will be remembered for choosing to side with the NFL over its players."
