  1. Indie music is just short for independent music, which means the artist(s) does all the work, write the lyrics, make the music, records, the whole nine yards, without a producer, unless they are a producer themselves. Some pop culture stereotypes of indie music is earth tone/vibe, drug influence with the sound of the music, and a bit like the pop culture “hipster” but dont go with the stereotype over the definition of indie music, indie music in reality can sound like anything, just depends on the artist. Some people prefer this music mostly because there is more to appreciate from the artist/band since they do all the work, unlike others who pay to produce their stuff or signed to a record company, since the “face” or “main artist” of the music gets little say on what it sounds like, an the producers do most of the work(most of the time). And sorry for not getting to the main question, signed to an independent recording company all depends on the producers and what the contract states (how much freedom of creating the music you make), other than that the genre is up to you Please – check my website – https://www.behance.net/annastasiyc433
