QUICK HITS: LÜM Adds Funding • WMG, BMG. Sony/ATV, Concord Sign

Music discovery startup LÜM has closed a Seed II round and will use the funds to continue its launch of a virtual gifting system implemented to help the development and profitability of independent artists in the music streaming industry.

With this successful round of funding, the Company looks to continue developing innovative methods that empower independent artists.

In just over a year, the LÜM platform has grown to over 100,000 users and over 200,000 tracks uploaded to the app, making LÜM one of the largest user-uploaded music streaming services in the US. Alongside additional investors, the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) participated in this funding round.

Warner Chappell Music has signed a worldwide publishing deal with British DJ and producer, Nathan Dawe.

Dawe is currently enjoying success with his single ‘Lighter’ featuring KSI. Last week the track climbed to number three in the UK Singles Chart having debuted at number four the previous week.

The Marsa Music catalog will continue to be administered and represented by BMG Rights Management/Gold Songs.

The catalog is an offering from award-winning singer/songwriter and producer Denise Marsa. Originally signed by BMG in 2016 by Kris Munoz, Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs at BMG USA, Marsa has found the company instrumental to the development and launch of her project THE PASS. Premiering in London in 2018, THE PASS is Marsa’s newest solo music project featuring her original songs intertwined with personal stories that she considers life and career-defining moments.

• Sony/ATV Music Publishing announced it has signed a worldwide publishing administration agreement with Grammy award-winning songwriter and recording artist Jozzy. 

Jocelyn Donald, better known as Jozzy, is a celebrated songwriter hailing from Memphis, Tennessee who has collaborated with top talent such as Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, Missy Elliot, Usher, Summer Walker, Lil Wayne, Coldplay, Ella Mai, 21 Savage and more.

Concord Music Publishing has announced a new deal with songwriter and producer, Rodaidh McDonald.

McDonald produced and mixed for artists such as The xx, Sampha, King Krule, Daughter, Adele, Savages, and Lapsley.

Many of these records came from his relationship with XL Recordings, with whom he worked alongside as producer and A&R between 2009 and 2018. He has also worked with artists such as Kanye West, Kelsey Lu, Nick Mulvey, Hot Chip and Liss.
