UPDATE: The US Commerce Department will restrict access to TikTok and WeChat on Sunday starting with a ban on new downloads.

TikTok users who have already downloaded TikTok should be able to continue using the app for now but will be restricted from receiving updated versions.

On Nov. 12th, the full restrictions will ban any company from offering internet hosting or content delivery networks to TikTok

The full WeChat ban begins this Sunday.

“Today’s actions prove once again that President Trump will do everything in his power to guarantee our national security and protect Americans from the threats of the Chinese Communist Party,” Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said in a statement.

TikTok celebrities expressed disbelief over the pending loss of access to the apps’ 100 million monthly users.
